Think about it: how do bricklayers stick bricks or blocks together to build a wall? With adhesive mortar, of course! It’s the one that has to grip well so the wall doesn’t come crashing down. It’s the same with floors and tiles – you need a glue that holds them firmly to the floor or wall.

At TopK, we have our white Portland cement-based Adhesive. It’s formulated with redispersible polymers that significantly improve adhesion and flexibility. It’s like a special strong glue for ceramic and stone tiles, both on floors and interior walls. Want to use clear joints or stones that let light through? No problem! The white base of this adhesive helps them look great. But hey, be careful! The surface must be clean, firm, and free of contaminants like oils, greases, and loose dust to ensure it sticks as it should. Cleaning with a wire brush, sanding, or pressure washing is recommended as needed. Also, follow the mixing instructions to ensure an optimal water/cement ratio, which is crucial for proper cement hydration and strength development. This adhesive complies with quality standards such as ANSI A118.1, so you can rest assured. To ensure optimal performance, we recommend using a notched trowel of the appropriate size (consult the product data sheet) to achieve proper wetting of the back of the tile and prevent the formation of voids.

2. Mortar That Doesn’t Let Water Through (Waterproofers):

What about places like swimming pools, tunnels, or foundations? We don’t want water seeping through anywhere! That’s where waterproofing mortars come in. They create a protective barrier against moisture.

TopK’s H2OFF is the mortar we use for this. It’s made with cements (for environments with sulfates, a Type II or V Portland cement is recommended) and special additives, like hydrophobic agents, to reduce capillary absorption; ideal for waterproofing concrete, brick, and masonry. You can use it in water tanks, swimming pools, basements, and also on walls and facades. It withstands water pressure, but at the same time allows vapor to escape, so moisture isn’t trapped and we avoid future problems. Important! The surface must be clean and free of cracks for it to work 100%. Proper curing, which involves keeping the surface moist for the first few days, is essential for proper cement hydration and strength development. In addition, the surface must be free of contaminants that may inhibit adhesion, such as oils, greases, loose dust, and curing agents. Cleaning with a wire brush, sanding, or pressure washing is recommended as needed.

3. Mortar for Smoothing Before Applying the Finish (Base Coat):

Sometimes the walls aren’t perfectly smooth, or we need a base before painting or applying another material like stucco. That’s where base coat mortar comes in. Its job? Leveling and preparing the surface.

TopK’s Base Coat is a powder that’s mixed with cement to make this base paste. If ours is a powder, and let me tell you, it’s better because it’s a powder. You can use it on interior and exterior walls, on materials like concrete or cement panels, and even on wood! It leaves a surface ready to receive paint, stucco, or ceramic. Plus, it’s easier to handle because it comes in powder form and lasts longer than traditional paints or coatings. Less waste and more savings! For this product, it is important to cure it, which involves keeping the surface moist for the first few days, which is essential for proper cement hydration and strength development.

4. Mortar for Adding the Finishing Touch and Decorating (Stucco):

Want a wall to look beautiful, textured, and stylish? Then you need a decorative finishing mortar, like stucco. It not only protects the wall but also gives the construction a special touch.

TopK’s Stucco is our star coating for this. It comes in powder form, and when mixed with water, it becomes a super easy-to-apply paste for interior and exterior walls. Best of all, you can give it different textures and finishes, from smooth to rustic, so your wall has the personality you want! It adheres well to various surfaces such as block, concrete, and brick. Careful! It is not recommended to put it on paint or metal. And if the climate is hot, remember to moisten the wall before applying it so it dries well.

That’s the breakdown – each mortar has its specific function. TopK’s Adhesive sticks, providing high tensile and shear strength. H2OFF waterproofs, the Base Coat smooths, and the Stucco decorates. Using the right one is key for a job well done that lasts for a long time. Movement joints are essential to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction of materials, thus avoiding stresses that can cause cracks and detachments. 1. Mortero para Pegar Cosas (Adhesivos):

Piénsenlo así: ¿cómo pegan los albañiles los ladrillos o los bloques para construir una pared? Pues con mortero adhesivo. Es el que tiene que agarrar bien para que la pared no se venga abajo. Con los pisos y los azulejos es lo mismo, necesitan un pegamento que los sujete fuerte al suelo o la pared.

En TopK tenemos nuestro Adhesivo base cemento Portland blanco. Está formulado con polímeros redispersables que mejoran significativamente la adherencia y flexibilidad. Es como un pegamento fuerte especial para losetas cerámicas y pétreas, tanto en pisos como en muros interiores. ¿Quieren usar juntas claras o piedras que dejan pasar la luz? ¡No hay problema! La base blanca de este adhesivo ayuda a que se vean bien. Eso sí, ¡ojo!, la superficie tiene que estar bien limpia, firme y libre de contaminantes como aceites, grasas y polvo suelto para que pegue como debe. Se recomienda limpiar con cepillo de alambre, lijado o lavado a presión según sea necesario. Además, hay que seguir las instrucciones de mezcla para asegurar una relación agua/cemento óptima, lo cual es crucial para la correcta hidratación del cemento y el desarrollo de resistencia. Este adhesivo cumple con normas de calidad como la ANSI A118.1, así que pueden estar tranquilos. Para asegurar un desempeño óptimo, recomendamos utilizar una llana dentada del tamaño adecuado (consultar la hoja técnica del producto) para lograr una correcta humectación del reverso de la loseta y evitar la formación de vacíos.

2. Mortero Que No Deja Pasar el Agua (Impermeabilizantes):

¿Qué pasa con lugares como albercas, túneles o cimientos? ¡No queremos que el agua se filtre por ningún lado! Para eso existen los morteros impermeabilizantes. Estos crean una barrera protectora contra la humedad.

H2OFF de TopK es el mortero que usamos para esto. Está hecho con cementos (para ambientes con sulfatos, se recomienda un cemento Portland Tipo II o V) y aditivos especiales, como agentes hidrofóbicos, para reducir la absorción capilar; ideal para impermeabilizar concreto, ladrillo y mampostería. Pueden usarlo en depósitos de agua, albercas, sótanos y también en muros y fachadas. Aguanta la presión del agua, pero al mismo tiempo deja que el vapor salga, así no se guarda la humedad y evitamos problemas a futuro. ¡Importante!, la superficie tiene que estar limpia y sin grietas para que funcione al 100%. Un curado adecuado, que implica mantener la superficie húmeda durante los primeros días, es esencial para una correcta hidratación del cemento y el desarrollo de resistencia, ademas la superficie debe estar libre de contaminantes que puedan inhibir la adherencia, como aceites, grasas, polvo suelto, y agentes de curado. Se recomienda limpiar con cepillo de alambre, lijado o lavado a presión según sea necesario.

3. Mortero Para Emparejar Antes de Poner el Acabado (Base Coat):

A veces las paredes no están perfectamente lisas o necesitamos una base antes de pintar o poner otro material como el stuco. Ahí es donde entra el mortero base o pasta base. ¿Su trabajo? Nivelar y preparar la superficie.

El Base Coat de TopK es un polvo que se mezcla con cemento para hacer esta pasta base, si el nuestro es en polvo y déjame decirte que es mejor por qué es en polvo. Lo pueden usar en paredes interiores y exteriores, en materiales como paneles de concreto o cemento, ¡e incluso en madera! Deja una superficie lista para recibir pintura, estuco o cerámica. Además, es más fácil de manejar porque viene en polvo y dura más que las pinturas o revestimientos tradicionales. ¡Menos desperdicio y más ahorro! Para este producto es importante que le des un curado, que implica mantener la superficie húmeda durante los primeros días, que es esencial para una correcta hidratación del cemento y el desarrollo de resistencia.

4. Mortero Para Dar el Toque Final y Decorar (Stucco o Estuco):

¿Quieren que una pared se vea bonita, con textura y con estilo? Entonces necesitan un mortero de acabado decorativo, como el stucco. Este no solo protege la pared, sino que también le da un toque especial a la construcción.

El Stucco de TopK es nuestro recubrimiento estrella para esto. Viene en polvo y al mezclarlo con agua se hace una pasta súper fácil de aplicar en muros interiores y exteriores. Lo mejor de todo es que pueden darle diferentes texturas y acabados, desde lisos hasta rústicos, ¡para que su pared tenga la personalidad que ustedes quieran! Se pega bien a varias superficies como block, concreto y ladrillo. ¡Ojo!, no se recomienda ponerlo sobre pintura o metal. Y si el clima es cálido, recuerden humedecer la pared antes de aplicarlo para que seque bien.

¿Por qué la humedad es tan dañina?

• Capilaridad: El agua que sube como una esponja: Imagina el agua del suelo subiendo por los muros como si fueran una esponja gigante. Eso es la capilaridad. Es común en cimientos y muros enterrados, y puede llevar la humedad hasta las paredes superiores, causando daños, manchas y un ambiente interior húmedo. ¡Nada agradable!

• Filtración: El agua que se abre paso: ¿Has visto esas goteras en los muros? Eso es la filtración. Ocurre cuando el agua se cuela por grietas, juntas mal selladas o materiales porosos. En muros enterrados, la presión del agua y el terreno aumentan el riesgo de filtraciones, causando encharcamientos, daños estructurales y corrosión.

• Hongos: Los invasores silenciosos: La humedad constante crea el ambiente perfecto para el crecimiento de hongos como el moho y el mildiu. Estos no solo son antiestéticos y huelen mal, sino que también deterioran los materiales y liberan esporas que afectan nuestra salud, provocando alergias y problemas respiratorios.

¿Cuándo necesitamos un repelente de humedad?

La respuesta es simple: ¡siempre que queramos proteger nuestras construcciones de los daños causados por la humedad! Pero hay algunas situaciones en las que es absolutamente necesario:

• Zonas húmedas: El ambiente conspira: En regiones con alta humedad ambiental, los materiales absorben más humedad del aire, aumentando el riesgo de problemas.

• Estructuras enterradas: El contacto directo con el enemigo: Cimientos, soleras y muros enterrados están constantemente expuestos a la humedad del suelo. Sin protección, la capilaridad y la filtración son inevitables. Si estás construyendo, ¡impermeabiliza los cimientos desde el principio! Y si estás rehabilitando, no esperes a que los daños sean irreparables.

• Albercas y depósitos: El agua al acecho: Albercas, tanques y túneles necesitan una impermeabilización robusta para evitar fugas y daños en la estructura.

• Zonas sísmicas: Los movimientos traicioneros: En áreas sísmicas, los movimientos pueden generar fisuras por donde se cuela la humedad. Utiliza juntas flexibles para proteger tus construcciones.

• Antes de los acabados delicados: La precaución es la clave: Si vas a usar pintura, papel tapiz o madera en áreas húmedas, ¡impermeabiliza primero! Así te aseguras de que se adhieran correctamente y no se dañen.

• Seepage: Water Forging a Path: Have you ever seen those drips on the walls? That’s seepage. It happens when water sneaks through cracks, poorly sealed joints, or porous materials. In buried walls, the pressure of the earth and water increases the risk of seepage, causing puddles, structural damage, and corrosion.

• Fungi: The Silent Invaders: Constant humidity creates the perfect environment for the growth of fungi like mold and mildew. When Do We Need a Moisture Repellent?
